Dancers are to remain inside the studio always unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participating studios are a drug/alcohol/tobacco free environment.

All parents must wait in the waiting areas or outside of the studios until competitions have been dismissed. Varies per studio.

In the rare case of a parent or student showing disrespect or defamation to any parent, staff member or student, a meeting will be called immediately, and dismissal may be considered at the discretion of the league. Physical, mental, emotional or cyber bullying by parents, staff or dancers will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the league. Following a formal meeting, we do reserve the right to dismiss or take disciplinary action on any students or parents who breach our league’s code of conduct. There will be no refunds.

Code of Conduct – Staff

Attendance

If a child misses a competition day, they forfeit those battles and will be counted as automatic losses.

Covid Specific Policies

Hand Hygiene—Sanitizing Station at Studio Entry—Restrooms

  • There is a sanitizing station at the entry/exit to the studio and ALL students and staff will be required to use this station upon entry and exit from the building. If you do not wish for your child to use alcohol-based hand rub you must inform us by EMAIL asap and provide an alternative for your student. Assumed consent is given if no formal contact is sought with regard to use of alcoholic hand sanitizer.
  • Disinfectant spray and wipes will be used on all hard surfaces regularly. Each studio is stocked with hand and surface sanitizing spray and disinfectant wipes.
  • Tissues and bins are accessible in all studios and in the lobby.
  • Posters and signage posted around the studio must be followed and adhered to. This includes hand sanitation, social distancing, no-touching policy and cough and sneezing management.
  • The restrooms are for dancers and staff only. Hands must be washed with soap and water after using the bathrooms and teaching staff will be asking any students who use the bathroom to do so. Students and staff are required to wash their hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds after using the restroom.

No Touching Policy

We have adopted a ‘no hugs’ and ‘no touching’ policy within the studio. To keep everyone as safe and germ free as possible we will have to make sure we wave, jump and get excited, with space between us! Please discuss these policies with your child before attending a Youth Breaking League so they understand why we aren’t allowed to hug or high five at the moment. We will be using other ways to show our bboys/bgirls love and are looking forward to sharing these with the students.

Coughing and Sneezing- Illness

  • Students are encouraged to cough into their elbow or use a tissue and dispose of it immediately. Tissues will be supplied in every studio for this use and bins will be emptied daily to dispose of these germs. We understand everyone sneezes and coughing is inevitable, however, if your child has a cough please keep them home.
  • Students who are ill in any way must stay home and not attend their battle. If your child has or has had a temperature/fever within the last 24-48 hours, please keep them home. If your child has any respiratory symptoms (cough, runny nose, temperature/fever, fatigue, sore throat, irregular aches and pains, headache, shortness of breath), regardless of how mild, they are required to stay home and not attend their in-person battles.
  • You should also stay home if you have had to take simple medications, such as paracetamol/acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin, which may mask symptoms of infection.
  • Students experiencing symptoms compatible with COVID-19 will be isolated in the lobby with supervision. Students parent/caregiver will be contacted, and the student will be required to be collected by a parent/caregiver as soon as possible. If your child or someone in your family been diagnosed COVID-19 positive and your student has attended a YBL Battle in the past 7 days, please notify your participating studio IMMEDIATELY.

Social Distancing

All students and staff are encouraged to maintain social distancing measures by always maintaining 6ft distance apart.

Face Masks/ Water Bottle Use

Masks optional for dancers, parents, and staff. All students are required to bring their own water bottle from home. Please make sure to label water bottle. We will not be providing cups or allowing students to drink from the taps. Students can purchase a water bottle upon entry to the battle but not after as this interferes with the dismissal path.

Infrared Temperature Checks

In the event COVID-19 begins to spread throughout our community, we will commence Infrared Temperature Checks of all students on entry to the participating ttudio building. Any student who returns a reading of 100.4F or higher will be isolated in the lobby and a parent or caregiver will be contacted. The student will be required to be picked up as soon as possible. Students will be able to reattend the participating studio after returning a negative COVID-19 test result or after being fever free for 2 days (provided they show no COVID-19 symptoms that require 14 days isolation).

Live steam

All events will provide a live stream for parents and families/friends to access on the Youth Breaking League website. The quality of the stream is dependent on third party internet support. If the stream is to become unavailable for any reason, a recorded copy of the event will also be available to watch next day on the Youth Breaking League website.

Disinfecting before and after events

All hard surfaces and equipment will be disinfected and wiped down before and after every event. This includes barres, stereo equipment, door handles, window seal and light switches. The lobby and administration desks and surfaces will be wiped down regularly. Front door handles and sanitizing station will be disinfected in between each group of student’s entries and exit to and from the building.

Restrooms

Restrooms will be disinfected and cleaned daily, and all surfaces wiped down. Soap is available to ensure all students can wash their hands with soap and water after using the restrooms and will be refilled regularly. Paper towels are provided and an enclosed bin to dispose of paper towel after washing hands.

League Format

Round Robin Battles

The battles are setup in a round robin format. Each dancer will battle 9-12 times over the course of 3 weekends. The top 8 dancers with the best record for the season will advance to the championship day, for their division. The championship day will be bracketed according to seed placement. Each division last roughly 1.5hrs, each battle day.

Dancer Ranking

At the end of each competition weekend, dancer wins, and losses will be tallied up so that rankings can be properly placed on the Youth Breaking League website. Dancers will be able to see where they stand, as the season progresses.

Age Divisions

There are currently four divisions in the Youth Breaking League. Each division has a minimum of 16 dancers. The divisions are separated as such:

Mini Breakers (5-7yrs) – New to breaking
Fresh Shorties (8-12yrs) – 0-1 year experience (Beginner)
Battle Rockers (8-17yrs) – 1-2 year experience (Intermediate)
Future Olympians (8-17yrs) – 3+ year experience (Advanced)

Judging

YBL judges are hand selected by the event producer and are based on a number of qualifications including crew affiliation, battle experience, accolades received as a BBoy/ Bgirl, and contribution to the culture. All judges go through a thorough YBL judges training.

Coaching

Our unique coaching system allows for all competitors to have someone in their corner while they are battling. All coaches will provide encouragement and ideas upon the start of the battle and immediate feedback afterwards to help all competitors improve throughout the season. Dancers can have a coach from their school present with them, to help coach them. It is up to the individual schools if they want to provide specific coaches for their dancers.

Commentary

One of the unique highlights of the YBL is our commentary which allows our live stream viewers to experience battles like never before. There will be a rotating panel of commentators that will explain what is happening moment to moment while educating and entertaining our audience all at the same time. Enjoy!

DJ

Our expert Hip-Hop Dj’s will keep the party live at all the YBL events! Music will be clean, funky, and fresh encouraging all the bboys/bgirls in the house to dance and let loose.

Venues

The Youth Breaking League may be held at various studios and dance schools throughout the valley. The current schedule on the website will display the specific venues that each weekend is held at.
